NBAA Welcomes New Incentive for ADS-B Equipage

DC, Press Releases, Virginia BusinessAviation, NBAA

Washington, DC, June 6, 2016 – The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) today issued the following statement, regarding an announcement from federal transportation officials that the government will begin offering a $500 rebate for anyone who installs Automatic Dependent Broadcast-Surveillance (ADS-B) equipment into fixed-wing, single-engine, piston aircraft.

ADS-B is one of the cornerstone technologies for the new, satellite-based Next Generation (“NextGen”) transportation system being developed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Officials with the FAA and Department of Transportation (DOT) announced the ADS-B rebate today.

“The business aviation community has long embraced aviation technologies that enhance efficiency and safety – to take just a couple of examples, we can look to the industry’s support for GPS and reduced vertical separation minimum (RVSM) technologies,” said NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen. “We know that ADS-B is foundational in the continuing development of a NextGen aviation system, which will bring further advancements in safety, efficiency and potentially other benefits to operators. Any ability to incentivize the installation of ADS-B is welcome, in that it will benefit not just the operators with the equipment, but the aviation system as a whole.

“We commend the DOT and the FAA for making this incentive available as part of the agencies’ NextGen-development planning,” he added.
